Inauguration of a new experimental facility for dairy goats

This facility complements the existing facility for dairy cattle and allows conducting research from the cell to the animal level bringing expertise into practice.

Pegase inaugurated the 1300 m² building of the new experimental dairy goat facility on May 16, 2013, in the presence of representatives of different partners of the project (EU, Brittany, Ille et Vilaine, Rennes and the State) on the site of the Rheu, Méjusseaume.

This new facility is part of the INRA network of research facilities dedicated to small ruminants and those of technical institutes and private partners.

With a herd of 150 goats of the Alpine race, it offers the possibility of combining basic biological research (physiology and metabolism) and applied zootechnical research under practical conditions.

This experimental facility allows researchers to collect data at the different stages of production of dairy goats: feeding, farming practices, physiology and development of the mammary gland and milk production.
